The Scot said: "We tried some steroid injections but they've not worked so I felt it was important we addressed it now also it wasn't carrying on into the close season. By doing that we'll get him to fit and designed for the beginning of pre-season.
"He's an integral part of what we're doing which is been an enormous blow to possess himself and Stuart Holden getting injured simultaneously since they are both key players in the engine room in midfield and were a large part of the success we'd been having."
